Alexandru Popescu was born in Bender, Republic of Moldova. He studied Communication Sciences at the Free International University of Moldova. He worked for several years as a reporter for news agencies, TV and radio stations in Chisinau. He has been living in the UK since 2017 and has been a member of the Moldovan Writers’ Union since 2023.
He made his literary debut in 2022 with the novel Montana, which was awarded the following year the Union of Moldovan Writers’ Debut Prize, the B. P. Hasdea in Chisinau, and the prize for literature offered by the cultural programme Vânturile, valurile (Wind, Waves) broadcast by Jurnal TV in Chisinau.
The author’s second novel, Adâncuri incolore (Colourless Depths), was published in spring 2023. The book was selected among 9 other works to be turned into a film script in a project led by the Association of Independent Filmmakers of Moldova. In March 2024, the title was nominated for the Ziarul de Iași National Award in Romania. In April 2024, the author published his third book, Ecographia (Ultrasound).
